Once we had the camp set up we got to start relaxing.  I found this to be a very laid back part of the trip.  Mornings and evenings we got to go on walks on our beautiful island.  We saw some animals (although nothing as spectacular as in Chobe) and enjoyed the landscape.  It was so nice to get some solid hiking in after spending a lot of time in vehicles!  We saw zebra, lots of kinds of antelope, elephants, hippo, lots of birds, and a snake in the big tree IN OUR CAMPSITE.

This camp felt very different from the others on the trip.  We were all very aware that we were in the wilderness and that there were all kinds of amazing animals around.  We felt safe in the tents, but going to the pit toilet in the night was a little nerve-racking!  Sometimes there were elephants right out back of the camp and we even heard them in the night!  It was amazing!

On one of our walks our guides gave us palm nuts to try.  You hit them with a stick to get the skin off and then eat the inside.  They taste almost exactly like granola bars.

The days were very, very hot, so we lazed around camp, tried our hand with the mokoros, and even had a couple of swims in the Delta!  Of course we had to look for crocs first.  The water was really cold and not very deep, but we had a great time splashing around.

Our second evening we got a sunset mocoro cruise.  The polers took us out in the boats to search for some animals and to watch the sunset.  The colors in Africa are always awesome at sunset, but over the water they are even more spectacular.

Each night we had a campfire that was used to cook our dinner and for hanging out around.  The second night we even had singing and dancing by the polers and by us!  We even used one of the mokoro poles as a pole for the limbo and everyone joined in for a memorable contest.  All in all the Delta turned out to be an absolutely beautiful and relaxing place and we were really happy that we got to be so immersed in it!
